A 19th century Serpentine marble, possibly Cornish, miniature font with an octagonal reservoir set atop a cluster of five columns, circa 1870.


In the 18th and 19th centuries, baptisms were ordered privately as status of high society. These portable, miniature fonts would be commissioned and kept in main halls or private chapels of great homes.
