An exceptional framed oil on canvas painting by Hélène Perdriat (1889- 1969) France circa 1965.
Gifted to Lady Churchill on the death of her husband, handwritten note on the rear of the canvas frame says 'A mon amie Madame Churchill I'offre ce tableau avec toute ma sympathie, Hélène Perdriat.'
Hélène Perdriat was a French artist and only began painting following an illness in her 20s. The majority of her works were self portraits and women but due to living in the waterfront town of La Rochelle, she also painted ships and sailors. Her paintings can be largely recognised by the large, heavily made up, almond eyes.
