A jet black burnished lacquer and gold leafed cabinet comprising of three drawers flanked by cupboard doors decorated with cubist gold leaf and black blocks, by Lane of Altavista USA 1950s.

Altavista, Virginia was founded by members of the Lane family in 1907 and initially made chests. It was at that time named The Red Cedar Chest company and was contractd by the United States government to make ammunition boxes during World War I. This proved to make the company very successful and in 1922 they changed their name to the Lane Company. They created the Girl Graduate Plan which was designed  for young women. Lane would sell their miniature cedar chests to furniture dealers, which were gifted to graduating women coming in store to collect them in the hope they would furnish their future homes with the dealers furniture. Between the 1950s and 60s the Lane Company expanded into furniture and have worked with some of the most well known brands and designers in the industry.
